Along with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates are Germany’s most important trade
partner in the Arab world (exports 2002: 3.1 billion Euro). The importance
of the UAE as an economic partner for Germany is underlined by the fact that
all of the so called “three pillars” of the promotion of foreign trade of
the German Federal Government are represented in the country. First to
mention are the German Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the German Consulate
General in Dubai for which the promotion of trade and
economic relations has a high priority. The correspondent of the German
Office of Foreign Trade (BfAI) in Dubai reports to his central office
on all important macro- and microeconomic developments in the UAE, which
are subsequently included in the brochures published by the BfAI in Cologne. These contain valuable
information about the particularities of the UAE market and especially
offer an excellent first orientation for those companies which are
not represented in the UAE yet. They can be ordered at the central office
of the BfAI in Cologne. Since its inauguration in May
1999 the Office of the Delegate of the German Industry and Commerce in Dubai all “three pillars” offer their
services in the UAE. Among other things, the Delegate is the competent
authority within the above mentioned system for all inquiries on German
companies including addresses.
The German companies
represented in the country have founded business councils in Dubai and Abu Dhabi respectively, both also
important partners for German companies and local partners. (German
Business Council Dubai = GBC; German Business Council Abu Dhabi = GeBCAD). Their monthly
meetings offer an excellent opportunity for an exchange of information.
